Limu coffee grows in the southwestern part of Ethiopia between 1100 and 1900 meters above sea level. Coffee is known and desired for its good cup, sweet, spicy / wine taste and balanced body. Washed Limu coffee is considered one of the best coffees in Ethiopia, grown at the mountains. The beans are of medium size, have a characteristic rounded shape and green color. Natural (or unwashed) coffee of this variety is often sold as “Jimma”.

For generations, coffee in these areas has been produced as sun-dried coffee. Washing these coffees to protect the final quality and consistency has been promoted relatively recently and with great success.

With the opening of coffee washing stations, farmers are gaining momentum in profits, which leads to improved product quality, followed by good prices for farmers. The rise of Washed Limu coffee not only introduces a new region of premium coffee, but this can be explored and shared with customers of the new coffee, as well as introducing a new livelihood for producers in Western Ethiopia.

Today, 90% of Ethiopian coffees are traded through the local stock exchange, through which a properly grading is done for the beans and a certain profile of the coffee in the cup and then placed on the market.
